BACK PACK PROJECT

THE BACK PACK PROJECT - WHAT IT IS - WHO IT'S FOR

Do you know that we have many students right here in our own community that face real hunger on a daily basis?

Many of these students have their needs met during the week, while they attend school. However, when the weekend comes this leaves them in a difficult situation with little or no food at home.

The Back Pack Program is designed to be a ministry of each individual church.

First Christian Church - Saint Francis has graciously offered their church facility to assist in the implementation of this ministry.

The Back Pack Project is our opportunity to serve these students. Working with teachers, students at risk will be identified. Funding for this program goes to purchase food that they can fix for themselves. Food is sorted and packed into packages that will be distributed discreetly into a students backpack on Friday to carry them through the weekend. Every effort will be made to ensure that these packages will contain items that are both nutritional and easy to prepare.

So, how can you help? Here are three ways:

1. GROCERIES - We need financial support to buy groceries.

a. You may want to purchase groceries on your own or donate them.

b. For a list of food items see list below

c. Or - Go to firstchristianstfrancis.com and click on BACKPACK PROGRAM - A drop down list of foods appears.

2. FILLING BAGS (VOLUNTARY) - Once per month, volunteers are needed to help assemble and fill the bags that will be taken to the schools. This will take place on Friday. Call First Christian Church @ 785-332-2956 for specific date.

a. If this is something you are interested in partnering with us, please reach out to your Pastor or to First Christian Church.

b. We would love your support to serve children in our community.

3. FINANCIAL - If you wish to give a donation specifically to the Back Pack Program, there is an account already set up at Western State Bank.

a. Simple make your check out to ‘Back Pack Program’ and all the proceeds will go to purchase food.

b. All the funds run through the Back Pack Program account at WSB are completely separate from any church. This enables the program to be completely transparent.

c. Donations are tax deductible.

SUMMARY

● Last school year 20-25 bags were distributed per weekend.
